Running on forest & field paths instead of on the road

Running through nature on unpaved, paved or tarmac roads is what makes trail running so appealing – especially here in Ischgl.

Compared to jogging, the terrain for trail running is a lot more challenging and helps to strengthen your concentration as well as your stamina. In forests and meadows, the ground we run on requires our full attention and we always have to focus on the next step. This is not only exciting, but also improves your running technique. The varied surfaces and constant dodging of roots and stones make trail running extremely exciting and entertaining.

Madleinsee: from Ischgl to the mountain lake

The starting point for this trail run is the Ischgl thermal spa. The route takes us along a hiking trail into the picturesque Madlein Valley. The trail runs along the Madleinbach stream through the forest and over the Madleinalpe. Surrounded by numerous three-thousand metre peaks, the route leads through breathtaking alpine terrain and is clearly visible thanks to the marked hiking trail. The rewarding destination lies at the picturesque Madleinsee lake at over 2,400 metres above sea level.

If you want to walk a longer distance, opt for the forest path instead of the hiking trail.

To the Friedrichshafner hut

The starting point is the hamlet of Mathon, from where we walk into the valley in the direction of Valzur. After the Valzurbach bridge near the Wildererhütte, a footpath branches off to the right in the direction of the Friedrichshafener Hütte. Now it goes uphill. (Tip: marvel at the view back over the meadow slopes down to Mathon). After a short stretch through coniferous forest, the path joins a wide footpath (leading up from Galtür). The path continues uphill through pastureland and across fragrant alpine flower meadows up to the hut. If the hiking trail is too steep for you, you can follow the forest road.
